Good Morning Miss Dove: For a few generations, a small town spinster schoolteacher has felt and helped condition lives of her learners. Now hospitalized, her past is exposed through flashbacks. Solar Crisis: Futuristic sci-fi thriller with Matheson leading a save the Earth mission to the sun to stop a solar flash from annihilating the world. Fine visual effects and suspenseful tale in space harmed by world pranks of poor boy Boyle who preposterously desires to undermine the mission. Cast includes Tim Matheson, Charlton Heston, Peter Boyle, and Annabel Schofield. (112 minutes,’90)

Holiday Affair: Well-finished Christmas time tale of war widow Leigh, with a small child, who’s helped by good guy Corey. Cast includes Robert Mitchum, Janet Leigh, Wendell Corey, Gordon Gebert, Griff Barnett, Esther Dale, Henry O’Neill, and Henry Harry Morgan. (87 minutes,’49)

Stage Fright: Theater student Wyman turns covert sleuth because an actress’ spouse is killed. There are some stimulating scenes however the Mr. Hitchcock misses on this one. Cast includes Marlene Dietrich, Jane Wyman, Richard Todd, Kay Walsh, Aastair Sim, Joyce Grenfell, Sybil Thorndike, and Patricia Hitchcock. (110 minutes,’50)

The Reward: Pledging premise and excellent cast led awry in static Western. A group of bounty hunters turn on each other, as greed for bigger share of prize money motivates them into conflict. Cast includes Max von Sydow, Yvette Mimieux, Efrem Zimbalist, Gilbert Roland, Emilio Fernandez, Henry Silva, and Rodolfo Acosta. (92 minutes,’65)

A Good Woman: Another rendition of Oscar Wilde’s Woman Windermere’s Fan which was filmed a few times over the years. This time it is set in Italy instead of England and updated from the’90s to the’30s. A number of Wilde’s British characters now are Americans; one of them is Mrs. Erlynne a sorely miscast Seek, a bankrupt adventuress who shows up in Amalfi and decides to seduce very wealthy, recently wedded Robert Windermere Umbers. Cast includes Helen Seek, Scarlett Johansson, Milena Vukotic, Stephen Campbell Moore, Mark Umbers, Tom Wilkinson, and Diana Hardcastle. (93 minutes, 2005)

Mrs. Doubtfire: Warm and gratifying comedy with earnest overtones in reference to a free spirit whose spouse divorces him after fourteen years. He couldn’t bear being split apart from his 3 kids, so he camouflages himself as a dowdy British housekeeper (under an Oscar quality makeup job) and gets himself employed to look after them. Williams is in top form, and director Columbus keeps the tale and characters moderately practical in an effort to drive home a humanistic message. Cast includes Robin Williams, Sally Territory, Pierce Brosnan, Harvey Fierstein, Polly Holliday, Lisa Jakob, Matthew Lawrence, and Mara Wilson. (125 minutes,’93)

Dinner for Adele: Genuinely wacky film that finds idol Notch Carter in Prague in the year’00 examining a killing spree that ultimately leads to carnivorous plant identified as Adele. A tongue in cheek film is finished in the style of a quiet melodrama. Cast includes Rudolf Hrusinsky, Milos Kopecky, Nada Konvalinkova, and Ladislav Pesek. (100 minutes,’78)

Fantastic Invasion of The Planet Earth: Discharged theatrically in 3-D, this movie was pretty much a disaster. A young couple finds themselves caught in a deserted town encircled in a mammoth bubble. The original title, The Bubble, was far less deceiving: there are no foreigners and no “invasion” in fact, and not much enthusiasm, either. Cast includes Filmed in widescreen Space-Vision.
