I think that since he is always probably cooking for you and your family (mabye) then you should make him dinner some time. Make it like “family bonding time” or something.
Does he like to try out the competition? Maybe there is a great, new restaurant in town that he’d like to try?
Or maybe, because he’s a chef, he gets bombarded with chef stuff and would just like a sweater from someone, you know?
lol funny you should say this because my brother is a chef also and the Christmas is here! He finished Court On Blue in France and moved back to US. Last year i got him this really nice custom made apron and chefs hat with his name on it and a little funny massage on it. he really loved the gift! try not to get him any cookwear and stuff because they know the top of the line gadgets and all that good stuff. Give him something new and interesting he must like something other than cooking such as sports, games, supplies, technology so theres aboundant goods that you can get him you know your brother better than any of us here so am sure you can get him something that he would appriciate.
p.s. The custom made apron with the chefs hat will do the job trust me! make sure you put ” Chef _____ ” and write something funny and clever on the bottom of the name. also make sure you put the name on the hat!!!!!
As a guy and a cook myself, this is what I would like. Not sure what you want to spend so….
- Tickets to a sporting event or concert
- Spa treatment
- One of current year cookbooks. I usually go for one of the award winners IAACP, James Beard or Julia Child awards)
- Music CD’s or DVD’s
- Bottle of nice Wine
- Bottle of Port or Bourbon
- Anything to do with fishing
- Magazine subscription
I wish I could help you, but I am in the same boat.
My niece is marrying a chef in the spring and he already has all the kitchen stuff one could possibly need and then some.
He must have it least 20 or 30 cookbooks too.
I need to buy him something for Christmas and have no idea what to get him as I don’t really know him that well.
Thanks for asking this question, maybe I can get some ideas too!
Good Luck finding your brother his gift!
Merry Christmas!
See if he has a copy of Larousse Gastronomique. If he doesn’t, get it for him. It’s nice, expensive, and will settle any cooking related argument he and his buddies might have.
Booze and drugs are almost universally appreciated by any cook.
Stay out of the kitchen completely. No food or drink related gifts, even though it’s a big part of his life. Key up on something else he is involved with. Does he watch the news? Get him a subscription to Newsweek or Time magazine. Does he like to wear cologne? Is it cold where he lives-get a nice pair of leather gloves. Hope that helps.
Custom bar towels or aprons are always nice. You can never have enough cookbooks, maybe a subscription to Gourmet or Savuer magazine. As a chef, I always get gadgets too. I have those, lots of them. Good Luck!
i just ask my family for a nice olive oil and a nice balsamic vinegar…not the kind you get in the grocery!…and most would enjoy a nice bottle of wine also!…just no more gadgets!!!
