Beyond Thunderdome is, without a doubt, the most imaginative, the most fun and the most epic of the three movies in the Mad Max trilogy. Many fans prefer the second film in the series, The Road Warrior, but Thunderdome is also the preferred favorite for many other viewers. It takes the series in some new directions, resulting in a film that takes more inspiration from adventure films than action, and one of the all time must download internet movies.
The movie was produced with a lot of American investors, and is certainly the least violent of the three. This rubbed a lot of fans the wrong way. Mad Max was inspired by George Miller’s career as a county doctor. He saw a lot of grisly motorcycle related injuries, and decided to put them all in a movie. Some fans dislike the lack of violence in the third, but it’s always good to see a film series go in a new direction.
The real reason behind the relative bloodlessness may have been the tragic death of Byron Kennedy. Kennedy had been a long time friend and collaborator of George Miller’s, and he saw an unfortunate end in his personal helicopter while scouting locations for the film. Chances are, George Miller developed a distaste for extreme violence after this, opting to rewrite the film in a less violent direction.
While Mad Max kills dozens upon dozens of bad guys in the first two films, he never directly kills a single person in this third outing. This actually serves the story, showing that Max has become less vengeful, more merciful in his later years.
The film takes place nearly two decades after the previous movie in the series, with nearly all of civilization and humanity having finally succumb to famine, plague and exposure. The movie really feels like it takes place some decades later, even though the productions were only separated by a few years. Max has grown his hair out, and his clothing really shows its age.
The heart of the action takes place in Bartertown, the last outpost of humanity in the Outback, where Auntie Entity rules with an iron fist. Interestingly, while she’s cast in the role of villain, she’s much more than just a movie bad guy. She’s a pragmatic, ruthless leader, and wants only to see humanity through these hard times, even at the expense of a few lives.
Max’s real journey is to escort a group of children through the wasteland, through Bartertown, and into “Tomorrow-Morrow Land”, which is, of course, Sydney, Australia, or what’s left of it, at least.
The film is much more epic, much grander and more of an adventure than either of the previous films in the trilogy. It’s your prerogative whether or not it lives up to the first two, but it is certainly one worth watching and at least a worthwhile entry in the trilogy no matter how you look at it.
In fact, it would take the invention of the silicon chip to make synthesizers possible. Buy Films The movies you really want are actually there and ready to rent now. That, and recently I had the urge to watch an old movie, Karate Kid 1 (the original where he learned karate)
