The LG 37LF7700 – A Review

The LG 37LF7700 – TV/Audio and Video combination is a sleek, black framed, flat television which on its own would do LG justice, but combined with its audio and video playing capabilities puts it over the top in a league of its own.

Not only is it sleek and good-looking, but the LG 37LF7700 will not fail to please with a 37 inch display screen and pixel resolution of 1920 x 1080. The LG response time is 5ms. Its broadcast format is neatly displayed with most picture clarity at 1080i HDTV and even better at 1080p HDTV using Blu Ray. The aspect ratio of the LG is 16 to 9 Native and its brightness specification is 500 cd/m2. The viewing angle stands at a full 178 degrees.

A great feature of this product is that it has Freesat Television. This is a built-in HD element which provides free ITV and a digital satellite service by the BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation). It is compatible with both HD and SD. Some users prefer to use Freesat other than Freeview, finding more steadiness of images and a more normal colour range than Freeview.

To describe Freeview briefly – it is a digital broadcasting signal available in England but not available in Ireland. As its name suggests, it has free air-to-air channels. The colours on this LG product using Freeview have been noted as being too bright and unrealistic and there seems to be a problem with slight screen shuddering at times as well. Most people, however, are pleased with this product and don’t seem too phased with these complaints.

Mark Levinson tuned speakers are a regular and well-appreciated feature of LG sets. They are of course, a specialised characteristic of the LG37LF7700. No LG set would be complete without them! The sound quality of the speakers can only be described as “awesome” and are energised by 10 Watts.

The set is Energy Star compliant which means it will not guzzle your electricity and is environmentally friendly. The Remote is also friendly – user friendly, that is. It features a great variety of shortcuts.

The humble Remote is hardly covered in product specifications, but here it must take part of the centre stage as being very user-friendly with great time-saving shortcuts which the less electronically-informed members of the family will enjoy! Other features include – Intelligent Sensor II technology, Dual XD Picture Processor and a 50 HZ scanning capacity. If you are looking for a 100 HZ element you won’t find it here. Only the larger 42 inch and 47 inch LG sets provide that.
