Stalman Talks Photography – Episode 4, Part 2 stalman.ca An overview of the top three video DSLRs out right now from Canon – the 5D markII, 7D and T2i. A tough choice, and each of these cameras has it’s roll to play. By the way, this video was shot on the T1i, and it was a terrible experience. Moire, artifacting, auto white balance and exposure changing mid scene, it drove me up the wall. Great for stills, not so great for video. Thanks to thecamerastore.com for loaning their demo model of the T2i, as of this writing they are hard to get a hold of around here. This video is so helpful! I am only interested in video and debated on which one to buy and your info helps a lot. My only question is what about when the video is played on a large theater screen, will the t2 still compare to the 5d or 7d?

Thanks for the video
@fishingwithrod I’ve heard that the one he mentioned, (The Zoom H4N) is pretty good.
Thank you very much, you’ve cleared everything up for me
Is there a difference in maximum recording time between the T2i and 7D?
What do you think i should d Tyler? I actually have a 7D… now i’m thinking about selling it and getting two t2i’s instead to do multi angle videography. I don’t know what i want to do. Choosing between the two can get very stressful because of such the huge price difference.
Great video Tyler. What’s a good yet reasonably priced external microphone for T2i that you would recommend?
thanks for the review!!!!!!!!!
I dont care what you are reviewing or teaching, I just love your style and level of professionalism. You could make a video on any topic and I would still watch it.
I take both photography and video so that would mean that i need to get a 7d right?
Video cameras are obsolete. Both the photographic camera & video camera use essentially the same technology. This is one of the primary reasons why they are merging. The reason that the photo camera is a more dominant form factor is because it is in my opinion more ergonomic. One can grip it better. The only video cameras that can be gripped are the those smaller hybrid ones.
Tyler, I am from panama central america – and i want to say that you are really good at this, I am trying to save up some money and i wish i can get one of those camera SOON!!!. i watched your pictures video and i would like to have the 7d and start learning about photography and video but i think my budget will allow me to get a T2i some time – I currently have canon g10. Thank you for sharing all this and promoting photography.
great review but i kinda feel like your bashing the t2i for its still pictures. i have it and it takes great photos in my opinion
I’m saving up for my first DSLR, the t2i. I was first aiming for the t1i (because i’m amateur), but the audio port was a deal breaker. I’ve always been interested in videography, and now with the audio port I can record my church’s sermons and get some experience.
Your videos are great and really informative. (I’m impressed with the t1i’s video quality, I didn’t know that’s what you used to film!)
Damn. Ive got $8 in Nikon lenses so im stuck with them. Although, i can just get the T2i and some cheapo lenses for video.
does the 7D have the micro imput? which one has a better audio quality?
@kamlanm For now, it’s still king of quality.
Thanks for the great video. I would have wanted to watch this 3 weeks ago before I made my purchase. You are correct about possibly not the right time to go for the 5D, but it was an overall winner (bar the higher frame rate), so I went for that. Am gonna kick myself if the Mark 3 comes out quite soon. Loving the quality in the mean time.
@rokuthekiller To my eye, I could see no obvious difference between the two. I’m sure they’re not identical, but close enough. For in-depth comparisons, check out zacuto’s video comparisons
Thanks for the video…I hope you can answer me this question, so i’m into video, amateur filmmaking, Does the T2i video quality is really similar to the 7D??, i’m just a little bit thoughtful for what to choose, since the price is really different…what would be the difference about video between this two cameras??…thanks again….
Nice review work..It’s what I was trying to find…thumbs up
Nice review.. Why do you think the T2i is cheaper then the others? any noticable reason? I love the 7D.. Has full manual control.. not sure that the 5D has all that.
One negative thing that we noticed with the 7D is that it overheats, it even has an icon to let you know that it is getting too hot…
This is obstacle I face every time I record one of these videos on my own. Try focusing on yourself against a blank wall, when you’re behind the camera. It’s a total pain.
This is one of the awkward parts of the whole convergence thing, but we will get past it. For 80% I shoot though, I really don’t mind.
Problem with dslr on video record is lack of continous auto focus due to mirror, m4/3 like gh1 offer continous auto focus in certain lens. Canon need to make lens that is design for video capture.
But why you don’t say that HD video filming is limited to 5 minutes only, and autofocus doesn’t work while you filming. I think that’s is very important. Is this your fucking business trick?
@WhatDigitalCamera
that said, the tilt screen will only come in handy at extremely high or low angles and around corners where you wouldn’t see the lcd when flat. But for the most part, it adds no benefit because it requires live view to work properly and most angles you’d see at some angle via live view, just like you can see the image on a tv from various angles.
not impressed at all…its not a full frame …dont you listen to people when they talk
@sweetashoney12345 The D90 is NOT full-frame. It has the same sensor as the D5000.
@muaj81 d90 is better but ive been told d5000 is just as great d90 is fullframe
If you’re looking to buy a dslr, then please check out the Samsung NX10. SAMSUNG NX10!!!!!
@karthiksrichandra Nikon sucks..550D is far better in both still shooting and video mode.
d5000 is not shit it got good image sensor than 550d and 7d.check at dxolabs.com
d5000 got many good features than 550d.550d is only shit of 18 MP and 1080p video but noise is very high in it
@ggreen629 go for canon 500D! its far better than the d5000 crappy shit
@muaj81 yeah deffinetly the d90
D5000 had a defective part need a recall for fixing power-on system.
@muaj81 D90 is the more advanced camere in most ways, though it doesn’t have a tilting LCD screen like the D5000.
which one is better d5000 or d90
I wish I have the money to buy this Camera….i’d buy it in a heart beat.
blaitently copied from sony.
i think nikon is better than canon.
what i dont like is when you look through the little screen above the large scrren your nose rubs all over the big screen
@jrhineberger get a nikon p100
how am i able to activate the burst mode for my d5000
@21mrgwalker Shoot at lower resolution to get longer clips.
does any one no get how to get the five minutes in the video so you can record for longer
around corners what? so wen ur being snake from metal gear solid and you need to go around corners XD idk, that made me lol.
is D90 better?
does this camera worked with window movie maker
I bought this camera and have never been happier i love the ISO range and im personally a beginner and this camera really helps me with aperture and shutter speed. one down fall is somtimes you get used to just seeing the display screen on whats happening on the inside and you end up forgetting the the numbers are and i am more used to seeing the screen for settings instead of just knowing the numbers. i still love this camera
