Yes, perfectly safe to use rubbing alcohol. We believe (guessing here) that the manual recommends using distilled water to get rid of dust. However, it does not remove fingerprints, oil, or any liquid-related substances. Only rubbing alcohol can easily remove it.
Are you sure rubbing alcohol is ok? In the reference manual on page 169 it says not to use alcohol when cleaning, but to use distilled water instead. Im sure your camera’s have done fine over the years with rubbing alcohol, but the book says its a no no?
@Lilkiwiguy87 Thanks
Download the PDF file in the video description. It lists all websites you can order each individual item from.
Where can you get Isopropyl Rubbing Alcohol and Those kind of microfibers cause i can only find the cheap microfibers that leave alot of fibers behind
i taught myself how to do this.
The image will lose its sharpness, resulting in fuzzy and textured areas.
What appears in the image if there is moisture in the sensor or lenses? thanks
time to clean my sigma lens
Scratched lenses will increase the flaring when you let the sunlight fall onto the exposed area, resulting in much lower contrast. In some cases, it shows up as white spots or white lines on the pictures, they will appear differently when stopped down.
What would you see in a photo if there was a scratch on the lens? Thanks
Very easy, scratches on lenses’ front glass element are usually white and as thin as hair. You can spot scratches under bright lighting.
How can you tell if there is a scratch on your lens?
It’s because PETA group do not allow manufacturers to produce items that have animal fur in it anymore these days.
In the old days we would only use camel-hair brushes. Don’t they do this anymore?
Maybe because camels are endangered.
Yep.
The captions says to wipe ‘very gently’. Personally – I think the crubbing with the lens cloth in this vid is far too rough. It is ok if the surface is free from dust – but it only takes one gritty particle under the cloth to scratch it very badly if you rub like that…
Is this advice from Nikon?
Uhm, a synthetic brush is the softest thing a human being can touch.
LensPen isn’t accurate; it just helps you when you’re on the move.
how is a lenspen any different from the brush u used, i would think the lens pen would be softer on the lens
Yes, non-powdered because if you use powdered rubber gloves, the power will get on the lens’ glass element, making it more difficult to clean.
90% isopropyl rubbing alcohol is fine but you would have to clean the lens as fast as you could since it vaporizes within seconds after rubbing the glass element.
Did you really mean non-powered (what are they?) or did you mean non-powdered (Additive to make it easier for you to put them on) gloves? and also was wondering… may i use 90% isopropyl alcohol or should i mix it with water (if thats ok) for safety and practical reasons. Great video btw and thanks.
Yup.
is isopropyl alcohol and isopropyl rubbing alcohol the same
Oh, boy.
Okay, we’re sorry but this sale representative is an idiot. Breathing on the lens is the easiest and fastest way to start growing glass-eating fungus. What painted on coating? The lenses’ coating are mixed with the glass elements; not painted on.
Ignore this idiot sales representative and use this cleaning method.
Hello Joseph.
I went to Paxton’s Camera Shop yesterday to look for lens cleaning supplies to purchase. Ironically, one of the sales representatives there did not recommend any liquid solutions to clean the front element of a lens because “they damage a coating that is painted on the front element of a lens”. They recommend to just “breathe” on the front lens element (for a second) and then wipe it with a microfibre cloth. Do you have any comments about their advice?
Thank you.
@ThunderTundra1011 nikkon d3000 is pretty cheap,,,,canon rebel xs cost a little bit more but with live view,,,, both budget dslr great for beginners
Now i know that i’m probably gonna be slaughtert for saying this, but chose my Alpha 350, as my first Dslr, because of the in-house steady shot, witch makes the lenses cheaper. Just thought i wanted to share it as an advice for those looking for their first dslr.
Btw its some great videos you’ve got Dom.
@bgtubber professionals do not need tips on buying cameras
@ThunderTundra1011 get the cheapest dslr you can find or go to a second hand shop. get a nikon as well
@mashkodal nikon d3000
@golotoi i would go with the canon 7d but that is cos i like a lot of video. but i also have the nikon d300. anytime i am doing photos that require flash stuff i go with nikon, if i am doing video or landscapes canon .
if you were to choose between the canon 7d or the nikon d300s, what will you choose?… coz as of now im still confused what to buy.. please i need your expert opinion…

hi there, your vids are great, im getting started in the photography business and i am buying a d300 but i need advice on what lenses to buy, i want to do portraits and weddings, what could you recommend? i have a total of £2500 including camera. please help. thanks
A bit distracting but very informative for the nonprofessional
Great info thanks. Btw, I plan to buy the Nikon D60 because it’s simple to use and affordable. But I think the D60 is getting old. What do you think?
Thanks again
i just ordered a 500d anyhow:) Took some time, think i’ll try it out:) Anyway, first lens i’ll be buying is 500d, and it’ll mostly be skiing, downhill mountain biking kind of sports
cheers
camera doesnt matter really, get a good lens.
a good 50mm for portraits,
a 100mm for macro
and for sports… well that totally matters on the kind of sports, is it far away or close up fast or slow? check out dpreview for more camera reviews
if you need tips on buying a camera then you need those basic info.
i bet few camera buyers have thought about dynamic range when buying
very basic info, but good job
it’s really a personal preference between nikon and canon. More important than the bodies are the lenses you get. If I were you I would save up a bit more and get a nikon d90. Huge difference, the nikon d60 doesn’t have AF capabilities in body so certain lenses won’t autofocus. That’s my opinion, dombower might have different advice and he’s more experienced than me so take his.
awesome info thanks:)
Would you recommend canon 450d or nikon d60 for just general portrait photos, macro photos and (not professional) the occasional sports photos?
My girlfriend was away, and i was alone in my house. no need for many clothes.
why r you shirtless in most of your vids great info regradless
