The Differences of the Three StarCraft 2 Races
If you’re new to StarCraft 2 or maybe are just curious about the other races after having stuck with one for awhile yourself, it’s important to understand the StarCraft 2 race comparison to know the strengths and weaknesses of each and be able to decide which race is best suited for you given your play style. This is the absolute comparison of the StarCraft races.
Terran
The first race to be covered in this StarCraft 2 race comparison is the Terran or human race which is a heavy hitting powerful race which deals damage through brute force. This is typically the choice for newer players because it’s the easiest to learn for a number of reasons, one being the obvious fact that the names of the units and buildings are self explanatory in terms of what they do compared to the other races. One benefit of Terrans is that they are the most fundamental race with the Marines and Marauders first, then slowly develop into more and more varied races.
Strengths – Can repair buildings and vehicles, can build structures anywhere, good defense and mobility, cloaking and invisibility detection, sensor towers see enemies through fog of war, have destructive Nuclear warheads, buildings lift off ground, medivacs can heal both while airborne and as well in transport, heavily armored and strong siege capabilities, reapers can go up and down terrain, supply depots can submerge themselves underground.
Weaknesses – The running of micro units is a requisite, buildings are set on fire to the ground at very low condition, a lot of resources and manpower are taken away by bunkers.
Protoss
Next to mention in the StarCraft 2 race comparison is the Protoss, a race specializing in Psy energy and technology. A great thing about the Protoss is that one probe is able to build multiple buildings at once, saving you from having to construct multiple units to build a base. Zealots and Stalkers are the strongest among the other races. The ability to “Chrono Boost” any building speeds the production of its units and warping once you upgrade Gateways to Warpgates is extremely helpful for moving units fast. This is another great choice for beginners.
Strengths – Probes can build multiple structures at once, buildings warp themselves into play, powerful defensive units, regenerative plasma shields, can use a warm prisms as a substitute pylon matrix, colossi can go up and down terrain, can use mothership abilities for powerful defense, photon cannons can attack land and air and detect invisible units, can warp units using warpgate for quick deployment.
Weaknesses – Pricey construction time, limited area for psionic matrix, structures go off the matrix plan, colossi are anti – air attacks vulnerable, grave vespene use.
Zerg
The last StarCraft 2 race is the Zerg, which is the hardest and the most commanding once you get acquainted with the right mechanics. This is a horde race, making the strength lie in the numbers. The major upside is that the units are cheap and are able to be built quickly and with a good grasp of the ability to macro you can expand and grow your economy quickly to support the continual high production of units with which to overwhelm your opponent in numbers.
Strengths – Units are cheap and easy to build, land units can burrow underground, the Infestor and Roach can easily move into the ground, hastchery builds three times faster, units can restore quickly, the Overseer can sense and move upon mutation, the defensive units of Zerg can be moved, it can gain 30% speed while on stealthy move, units can be easily transported anywhere through the use Nydus worm, supplies are provided by Overlords, can fly and creep.
Weaknesses – Because units travel in hordes tightly together they are especially susceptible to all kinds of splash attacks thus destroying your entire force all at once if you’re not careful, units are weak, buildings must be built on creep, drones are lost when creating new buildings. One last thing that you need to remember, master one game at a time, especially when you are just a novice on the game for you to become competitive on the that race. After mastering that one game you have chosen, then you can already start playing for the two other races to get familiarized with the other races and knowing your opponent’s move and tactics.
Keen on taking part in StarCraft 2 Zerg? Even better go to and have a look at StarCraft 2 Terran.
