Reva NXG 2011 Automakers worldwide have gotten the message loud and clear: To be successful, new hybrids and electric cars will have to wipe out the idea they are nothing more than glorified golf carts. Demand for far greater fuel-efficiency is coming from two sides consumers, who have shifted away from gas-guzzling cars and trucks, and governments jacking up standards for lower emissions and higher miles per gallon. The result? A bevy of new cars unveiled at the recent 2010 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, all trying to show how cars can be “green” and “cool” at the same time. Just about every automaker got on the electric car bandwagon at the show, bolstering the notion that gasoline-electric hybrids and battery-only electric cars are becoming more and more mainstream, even though plug-in hybrids and electric vehicles aren’t even available yet, outside of a few experimental test units. In fact, carmakers already are starting to offer different varieties of each, including sports cars with distinctive styling and respectable performance. Here’s a look at 10 + 1 “cool” and “green” cars — none yet on the market and some that never will be — Bankrate found at the show that offer a peek into the future …

there is something I don’t get, I learned that you cannot keep a patent when you don’t use. So chevron would have to lose the patent.
I LOOOVE how the guy asks “is that an EV”!
It makes me smile EVERY TIME
@truthspeaker2000 Too bad bush is a bitch and made this really damn hard.
I can’t believe that the batteries are illegal to buy ! Can’t someone reinvent them or something ? All the companies steal ideas from each other.
YES! That man is talking about LiFePO4 batteries. Lithium Iron Phosphate. They are under “heavy duty” testing in the ebike community right now. So far so good. Most people get thousands of cycles with these batteries. I believe someone actually hit 30 k miles with them.
Well put the generator inside of the RAV4!
What kind of generator? It would take energy from the RAV4 to move the generator to generate power for rhe RAV4 so there would be no gain.
I don’t understand (lest, the HUGE big oil media smear campaign) why the masses are not OUTRAGED OVER THIS also, why so many people think that a partially electric powered vehicle is the best we can do when clearly, there could have been an ASTRONOMICLY better option altogether.
THAT’S CORRECT, do a Youtube search and watch the movie in it’s entirety “Who killed the electric car?” you see, the oil companies (namely Chevron) purchased these patents for obvious reasons.
120 miles distance on a single charge? what happens if you tow a small generator and charge the RAV4 while it’s going down the road? a generator to charge batteries is far more efficient than powering a car with an internal combustion engine
Anyone want to start a fight club?
How much longer until the patent runs out?
anti trust laws against the oil industry
are needed…
Chevron bought the patent on the NIMH battery, the battery that Toyota used in the Rav EV that got /gets 100 miles per charge and lasts over 100,000 miles at a far cheaper price then lithium ion batteries. As far as I know Chevron strictly limits the sale of this battery.
Did he say Chevron the oil company bought the patents for electric car technology?
The problem is that no self-respecting (greedy) investor (who’s only interest is money at any cost) is going to put money into a product that once sold gives no more return (I.E. EV’s with batteries, and solar panels) not when they can invest in, and promote an auto that requires a fuel (I.E. gas, hydrogen, ethanol,). A fuel that the car owner has no choice but to buy from them, increasing their profits significantly.
too bad im stuck with lead acid, for now
Thanks for this post Doug. Glad to hear you speaking out about Chevron’s grab of the NiMH patent. I refer people to Tomn Knipe’s (Southern Cal Edison) white paper from Arpil, 2003, wherein he documents the service SCE is getting with their fleet of over 300 RAV4 EVs. They are consistently running over 150,000 miles on the NiMH batteries with no noticable degradation. The PERFECT BATTERY EXISTS but nobody in our government wants to tackle the Chevron NiMH monopoly. Thanks again.
Sooo much better with a quiet grease-free machine. Getting a little sick of people who romanticize a noisy vibrating combustion engine and insist on them -even with alternative fuels. I thought we were past all that. I’m glad you’re posting this with confidence and accurate data to back it up, against the sceptics and player-haters.
Higher efficiency is always better. I can make electricity with some wires -I can’t make petroleum to save my life. ” …I hold these truths to be self-evident”
Hey Doug! It’s great to see you posting again. thank you so much for your video contributions. I’ve shown them to friends and family that believe that electric cars are a fantasy. You have proved them wrong time and again. I wish that their were more vocal EV users out there that would step forward and help turn this thinking around.
