Question by Kitkat: Which kind of digital camera should I buy to take a good picture of a fake jewel?
I want to sell fake jewels on ebay. I tried to take pictures with 2 digital cameras but none of them gave good quality pictures. Is there also a special kind of holder I should buy? Please tell me some brand and models of cameras I should buy. The problem is that I need to have a camera that take good close up.

It probably isn’t the camera but the technique. Lighting jewelery is difficult for two reasons. First you have to deal with the reflections on any of the mounting (a light tent helps) and then you have to put light on the gem to show its fire (using a snoot on a high wattage photo lamp works)
All your camera has to be able to do is shoot in a macro mode and have a white balance for incandescent lights.

There is a technique for taking close-up pictures. First of all, make sure your camera is set up to take a close-up. You can usually set it on the “flower” setting. Then focus your camera on the jewels and press the shutter button down about half-way for a few seconds, while holding your camera very steady. When you think you are completely focused, press the shutter button all the way down to take the picture. I take close-up pictures every day for my job and this is what I have to do. I use several different kinds of Kodak digital cameras and love them all. Optical zoom and lighting are also very important. Don’t let the camera go into digital zoom, otherwise, the resulting image will not be as crisp and clear. Hope this helps.

First of all. Taking pictures of celebrities, even fake ones, is considered Paprazzi. You really need to fully consider exactly what the implications of that may be for you personally. remember Princess DI (may she rest in piece)
Secondly you really need to consider the service that ebay provides. Selling people, while a viable market, really isn’t their forte. You might want to do a quick google search for “underground slave auction” or “slaves for sale” or “ebay like site for slaves” or “celebrity look-alike auction sites” I know there are quite a few of them if you look in the right places. you might try sites with the .glov extension first.
Now, lets move on to the types of holders you might want to buy (and I believe they prefer the term “retain”) I would look for a large man from the Netherlands, or possibly Egypt, preferably with a scar across his face. They should be mute and deaf to get the best results. Also make sure they are willing to take care of the “Smooshy” which can be quite a large problem when dealing in the slave trade. Anyway, stay away from the Holders that advertise themselves in the phone book, just find someone and appraoch them about it, and remember, money talks.
Now as far as taking pictures of the celebrity impersonators, what I might suggest is using what we call in the industry a home-made paper image transfer. This is a good way to keep the photo development places from asking too many questions.
Here’s how you make one.
1) Take a large cardboard box
2) Remove the seeds from the inside. This can be done with a large spoon or your hand.
3) Poke a hole in one side of the box.
4) Place a piece of photo paper directly between the box and your photo subject (most likely hang it from the ceiling using a string and gum)
5) Take a lemon and cut it in half.
6) Place one half of the lemon directly behind the hole in the box, and the other half on the head of the photo subject.
7) Get inside the box and have the photo subject, flip the lights in the room on and off
the tranfer of electrons from your bodies interaction with the lemon juice and the photo subjects will create a photo image of the subject on the paper.
Hope this helps!
– good luck!
