How Far The Computer Game Has Come Since The Arcade

If you are one of those people who remembers playing Final Fantasy when it first appeared or if you know what an Atari 2600 is, then you are probably very familiar with a games arcade. Back in the eighties and nineties, the only way you could get to play proper video games was in a games arcade. When these games machines were out it was a real treat if you could get a handful of change to play Afterburner, Outrun or Wonder Boy for a couple of hours.

However, if you were to transport a teenager from today back in time to a games arcade, they would not want to play these games as they can get so much better quality in the comfort of their own home these days.

Most teenagers these days will have a games console in their bedroom such as a PS3, Xbox 360 or Nintendo Wii. These are games consoles that would put the old arcade games machines to shame because of their processing power.

Kids these days prefer playing games in their homes especially when the it is now possible to play 3D gaming with surround sound in an online community that has thousands of players. So heading off to spend money on games in an arcade is just not an option worth entertaining these days. If parents want to give their kids fresh air nowadays they have to open a bedroom window.

You might have had a Game Boy years ago which you thought was amazing but if you look at young kids these days, they are playing mobile gaming devices such as the 3D Nintendo DS or the Sony PSP and these are two devices which would put your old Game Boy firmly in the shade. Nintendo are unique in that they have decided to improve on games that were first released years ago; they have just decided to improve the graphics on these games and the sound has improved as well.

If we asked our kids what kind of games they think their own kids will be playing then we might get some interesting answers.
