How The MINI Cooper Came To Be

What you need to know about Sir Alec Issigonis is he created the MINI Cooper and all of its predecessors. Something you need to understand is the MINI Cooper you see now days was not the first one created, the first one was called the Austin Mini and it started being produced in 1959.

Sir Alec Issigonis was very pleased with his work on the Austin Mini and so was the rest of the world. The Austin Mini become the best-selling car in all of Britain with more than 5.3 million of them being produced and sold. This was not the end for Sir Alec who soon after was told to finish the production on the XC projects and the year after they were all finished one of the projects was put into production and later named the Morris 1100.

The problem soon after the Morris 1100 was released was the cost of fuel become way too high. In order to get through this the company decided to promote Issigonis and replace him with a man named Harry Webster in order to get the cars where they would be more affordable. What many people remember hearing was that the promotion wasn’t because of the success that Issigonis had, it was because the company though he was the one that was keeping the company from making the money that they knew they could.

The MINI Cooper was and still is one of the best production cars to ever roam the streets and it was because of work that Sir Alec Issigonis put into them. What Sir Alec Issigonis was going after was a car that could handle really well, had a powerful engine, and was comfortable enough to be an everyday car, and that is exactly what the MINI Cooper turned out to be. Although sir Alec was not part of the most recent transformations of the MINI the car is still being modeled after his vision for the car after all these years.

Sir Alec Issigonis passed away in his home back in 1988 but one thing he said before his passing is that bringing the MINI to the public was probably his greatest achievement here on earth. You can tell how important Sir Alec was to the community in which he served because following his death the road where the old Morris Motors factory was at was then named, “Alec Issigonis Way”.
