How To Remove The Dreaded Windows Personal Security Virus

At Attitude Computers we’ve seen so many computer’s infected with the Personal Security Virus that it’s become common place. There are many variations of this virus, and some of them look pretty similar. Since it has so many variations, this virus always seems to find a way around your antivirus program. From my perspective as a tech and computer repair business owner, I hate to hear about people who have given their credit card numbers online when they are asked by this virus.

You might think that the Personal Security virus would be incredibly difficult to remove, but it isn’t. However, it depends on how long the virus has been in your system. You will know that you have this virus or one like it if you see a new anti-virus program that you can’t remember installing on your computer. This anti-virus program may ask you for a credit card number and show you how many viruses it thinks you have.

I try and keep it simple when removing this virus. The first thing to do is download Malwarebytes, then you just have to install and update it.

Now that you have Malwarebytes ready to go, all you have to do is download AVG free from free.avg.com. Then simply install and update the AVG software.

Next, all you have to do is restart the computer, and when it starts booting back up again start pressing “F8″. A menu may pop up asking about a boot device, if this happens just press escape, and then start pressing “F8″ again. A menu should appear, go to the option for safe mode and press enter.

Now, you need to log into your user account and run AVG and Malwarebytes. When these programs finish scanning (sometimes hours later) you can remove any infections they may have found. By now you should be clear of the virus and can restart the computer back into normal mode.

Now that you’re back in normal mode, check to see if the virus is still present. If it is, you need to repeat the steps for each user account in safe mode.
