When Rick is resistant to Ilsa, she comes forth with the reason she left him stranded at the train in France so many years prior. She was married then to Victor but believed him to be dead in a Nazi prison camp.

After her touching story, Rick forgives her and they begin a plan to help Victor escape. But Rick makes her believe that she is to stay there with him in Morocco. He insists Victor move on and she stay with him.

Later, Victor is arrested on some made up charges. The Nazi’s believe he is trying to leave Morocco but soon Rick convinces them that he is going to use the letters to leave for America with Ilsa, leaving Victor behind. Interestingly, while she’s cast in the role of villain, she’s much more than just a movie bad guy. She’s a pragmatic, ruthless leader, and wants only to see humanity through these hard times, even at the expense of a few lives.

Max’s real journey is to escort a group of children through the wasteland, through Bartertown, and into “Tomorrow-Morrow Land”, which is, of course, Sydney, Australia, or what’s left of it, at least.

The film is much more epic, much grander and more of an adventure than either of the previous films in the trilogy. It’s your prerogative whether or not it lives up to the first two, but it is certainly one worth watching and at least a worthwhile entry in the trilogy no matter how you look at it.

Breakin’ 2 goes with the crooked land developer story and it works pretty well as a hair thin thread upon which to hang a ton of great dance numbers. Some of these dance numbers, they’re not just good, they’re some of the best of all time, with a nice mix of traditional choreographed pieces like in the glory days of the Hollywood musical, and some smaller set pieces designed specifically to show off what hip hop dancing is really all about.

One of the best numbers has Boogaloo Shrimp dancing on the walls and ceiling of his room. It’s easy to figure out how they did the scene: They put the room on a spinning axis. But the way they pulled it off is spectacular. It’s all shot in just a handful of long, unbroken takes, where it would have been much easier with quick cutting and shorter takes. Halfway through, his girlfriend walks in the room, while he’s on the ceiling, and leans against a wall watching. It’s obvious that she’s wearing a harness, but regardless, they went all out to make the scene work and feel real.

Shabadoo has his own great number, too, leading a troupe of dancers against a local street gang. The gang throws a brick through a window and Shabadoo and his friends chase them down alleyways under a bridge, where Shabadoo rips off his vest and gets ready to… Dance at them, very aggressively. It has all the action of a rumble with none of the violence, it’s exciting, fun and funny to see the characters act so aggressive and then settle their differences with a shake off.

Now of course, the movie ends happily. That’s not a spoiler. How else could such an upbeat, positive movie end but with an upbeat, positive ending?
