I am 14 years old and looking for a lower-end priced digital camera (around $ 100-$ 250). I know that I would prefer a waterproof one, but am unsure of what other options I have on looking for a digital camera. So, two questions: What kinds of options do I have regarding different cameras? And – Do you have any suggestions of cameras for me?

I was thinking of getting a Pentax K-x because the price and reviews seem to be okay and it also comes in fun colors.

Any of the entry level DSLRs would keep you happy for a few years. I’d pick either Canon or Nikon. I have a LOT of contact with other photographers and time and time again it seems that either one of those are most likely to make their owners happy.

The most important part is to buy only the best lenses – camera bodies get upgraded, lenses stay with us.
You WILL regret buying cheap lenses.
Don’t rush into buying lenses. Start with a kit lens, get to know your camera, that lens, and all photographic principles.
Through time and through use, you will eventually KNOW what other lenses you’ll need/want.
The more time you’ll take, the less likely you are to regret your choices.

If you know anyone close to you with a camera, consider borrowing lenses and “picking their brain” about their camera and whatever else they know.

Go to a store and hold a few cameras, see how they feel to YOU.

Do lots of research before you buy, and start learning about photography, too.

Keep in mind that buying a DSLR isn’t cheap, even if you find a good deal for body and kit lens.

You’ll also want and/or need a few other things such as tripod, filters, a bag, sensor cleaning gear, a second battery, memory cards, perhaps a remote shutter release etc.

That’s just the small stuff – I can guarantee you that you’ll also want more and more lenses.
You’ll also want a decent flash some day.

See how that list just goes on and on?
Owning a DSLR isn’t cheap – at least not until you have built up a nice stash of gear.

I want to sell fake jewels on ebay. I tried to take pictures with 2 digital cameras but none of them gave good quality pictures. Is there also a special kind of holder I should buy? Please tell me some brand and models of cameras I should buy. The problem is that I need to have a camera that take good close up.

It probably isn’t the camera but the technique. Lighting jewelery is difficult for two reasons. First you have to deal with the reflections on any of the mounting (a light tent helps) and then you have to put light on the gem to show its fire (using a snoot on a high wattage photo lamp works)

All your camera has to be able to do is shoot in a macro mode and have a white balance for incandescent lights.

I was going to say a true video camera, but you cannot fine cheap ones. In fact finding a P&S camera that you can manually focus is going to be tough, let alone one that will allow you to focus while shooting.

I’m thinking of buying a Canon Powershot SD750 silver for my girlfriend as a surprise. She had told me a few months ago that she wanted one. I could buy it for her , but the price is kind of steep at 9. I was wondering is there another digital camera that is just as good but a little bit less pricey? It could be 5 or less. I know she wants a camera that is slim, and that can fit into a pocket. Also she wants one that has a nice LCD screen to watch the previews, and has different picture modes. Any suggestions would help.

The Canon Powershot SD750 and SD1000 are almost identical cameras.
The main differences (other than a slightly different body), are…
SD750…3.0″ LCD, no viewfinder.
SD1000…2.5″ LCD, has a viewfinder.

My pick would be the SD1000, because it has the viewfinder (which is invaluable to have at times). Plus, it’s in your price range (0-250).
Both have the same high res. LCD screen (230,000 pixels).
The SD750′s LCD is just slightly larger and that’s the only real reason it costs more.

look into nikons.
The D40 is pricey (WAY over 200), but very worthwhile and will last a lifetime
As far as “regular” cameras go they have many high quality cameras (I recommend a coolpix) for under 200 at stores like staples, best buy, costco, etc. just walk to their camera section and ask the salesperson for a recommendation based on your preferences.

I like the Cannon Rebel line of cameras but I was wondering what a more affordable option might be. What are your thoughts on the Pentax K100d. I learned on a Pentax K1000 and I read that most of the older lenses will fit the Pentax digital SLR cameras.

I want one that takes really sharp pictures, has an optical zoom, not digital zoom, and has at least 3 mega pixels and is under 300 bucks. The digital camera I have now is really bad, it’s a Polaroid I-Zone, and the pictures are horrible. I can’t take pictures of myself with the flash on, because my face gets washed out even if I hold it far away from my face, and if I try to take a picture without the flash, my face is really red and blotchy. i wouldnt trust precious once in a lifetime pictures to any camera phone…none of them have optical zoom and pic quality is still inferior to even the cheapest entry level camera. as long as your kid is not running around and your majority of pics will be stills…get a camera such as the inexpensive canon a590is and leave your cellphone to making calls and taking “caught on cam” emergency pics.
